If you want to stay on site, our guests have plenty to do and see. The grounds offer a wide range of walking and cycling options, through woodland, fields and along the banks of the river Cree taking in nature and wildlife. If you fancy something more competitive, activities such as bowls and croquet hire are available to keep you entertained on a sunny afternoon. If you don’t want to miss out on your fitness regime, the gym, sauna and steam room are available for use as well.

The estates 100 acres are bordered on the west by the vibrant river Cree and on the east by pristine woodland providing guests with plenty of space to adventure in between. The grounds feature a sprawling forest, picturesque pastures, the walled garden, an outdoor bowling green, several hikes and biking trails. Penninghame is host to many fantastic creatures including otters, badgers, foxes, deers and pine martens. It is truly a unique place with plenty of room to explore and relax.

If you are looking for a picturesque spot on the estate to relax, the river Cree is a perfect option. It has been a boundary between districts and shires for centuries and now provides the perfect place to relax with a book, or stretch your legs, and take in nature on its shores. Various species of fish inhabit the Cree including salmon, brown trout and pike, whilst its banks are home to a miriade of smaller creatures and deer. Permits for fishing can be obtained from the local town, so why not bring you rods and give it a go?

In the British Isles, croquet has been played in its earliest form since the 17th century. Croquet was introduced from France and the British really took to the game. Did you know that Wimbledon is the home of British croquet, as well as tennis? Mallets and balls are available for hire from reception for a small deposit.

What could be better than sitting round an open fire with a bottle of wine and fluffy blankets, chatting to friends and family under the stars? Well, this is what the fire pit in the grounds can offer you. Book a slot at reception so you and your friends and family can enjoy the grounds at night, looking up at the stars.

Introduced to Scotland in the 13th century, bowls is a game that has been played for over 8 centuries. If you want a healthy, stress-free way to enjoy the outdoors, bowls is a fantastic way to get your steps in and entertain the family. Our bowling area, located at the front of the house is ready and waiting for you to come and have a go!Â
