PENNINGHAME
COOKING SCHOOL

UNDER DEVELOPMENT

If you can eat it,
we can teach it

The Penninghame Cooking School, is a destination school, located in the beautifully restored stables at at Penninghame Estate, Dumfries and Galloway.

The focus here is on learning to cook in a relaxed intimate setting using the freshest, local seasonal ingredients.

We will teach you the basics and inspire you with the confidence and more importantly the skills to cook for yourself, your friends and families. Our approach to food is simple, modern and imaginative. We love sharing our ideas for delicious food and are constantly finding fresh sources of inspiration to bring to our classes.

As in our restaurant, we use seasonal, local or homegrown produce wherever we can. In fact, our cookery school overlooks our vegetable garden, where you might even pick your own ingredients.

Our vision is to provide a relaxing fun environment where individuals, friends families or work colleagues can enjoy a great day cooking together and then enjoy the fruits of their labour in the dining room or in the courtyard enjoying the late evening sunshine.

YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Alex has over thirty years’ experience in the food industry and is just as passionate about what drew her into the kitchen as a young chef today as she was then.

After leaving school, Alex trained as a Cordon Bleu chef, starting her career at the world famous Ballymaloe cookery school in Cork, Ireland. Set on its own organic farm, she honed her passion for using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients.

Over the years Alex has worked in many different roles, head chef, cookery teacher, an assistant producer for cookery TV shows and a recipe developer for books.

Alex now brings her skill and knowledge to Penninghame Estate, providing stunning catering and cookery lessons for our guests.

YOUR SUPPLIER

Annmaree Mitchell is a Freelance Horticulturist from Port Logan, near the Mull of Galloway. Her work is inspired by a childhood spent exploring the local countryside with her parents who opened her eyes to the flora and fauna surrounding her. After training at Logan Botanic Garden, she studied at Barony and Elmwood Colleges, gaining top student awards at both. Her first Head Gardener role was at Glenapp Castle, a property that had lain abandoned for nearly 10 years. Annmaree saw the garden restored back to its former glory before moving on to work as an Instructor at the National Trust for Scotland’s Threave School of Gardening, where she enjoyed sharing her passion for all things horticultural with her students.

Now working with Penninghame Estate, she loves helping clients create beautiful and productive gardens whilst preserving historical features and being kind to the environment.
