Our 3 night stay at Gardeners Cottage was so peaceful and the perfect way to get away from it all. We were a party of 3 adults and one toddler, our hosts had made up a travel cot for us as well as high chair which was brilliant. Super easy check in and friendly correspondence with staff. The cottage was well equipped for all our needs, all the usual bits and bobs in the kitchen and a powerful and hot shower in the bathroom - with Arran Aromatic toilets, very plush. The beds were super comfy, heating was easy to adjust and decor was a mix of traditional and contemporary which gave for a very comfortable stay. Views to the walled garden and resident ducks each morning were pure bliss. We also saw a hare and a couple red kites from the window too. Lots of information leaflets about what to do locally was left out at the cottage including a booklet documenting the sale of Penninghame estate in 1913 was an interesting read too. We set up our telescope one clear night in the Walled Garden and enjoyed a spot of stargazing. Another night we went to Glentrool to take advantage of the Dark Sky park. We used Gardeners Cottage as a base to explore the forestry trails in Galloway Park, we cycled the Carrick Forest Drive as well as from Glentrool to Clatteringshaw visitor centres and lastly the Raiders’ Road Forest Drive. All of which were ideal for our bikes and bike trailer. We were so lucky with the weather for the end of September which always helps but I would definitely return to Penninghame estate with other family members and continue exploring this quiet corner of Scotland.

We had an excellent 3 nights in the Tower, everyone loved the high quality of the furnishings and decor which were in period. The rooms were all spacious and comfortable and the beautifully decorated stairs and hallways/landings plus the use of the red drawing room made us feel as if we were staying in our own stately home. The kitchen was well equipped and modern although a microwave might have been useful. The estate team were very helpful and even provided us with a bbq to use in the magnificent front garden, what a stunning location to have a family meal! The only reason I've given a rating of 4 stars and not 5 is that when we booked Penninghame's website needed to be updated as the Tower rooms had been reconfigured, this caused a lot of confusion but issues were resolved promptly and I believe the website will be updated soon. Overall a fantastic stay, thank you.

We had a wonderful time at Penninghame. As soon as you walk through the oversized wooden doors, you encounter the vast interiors and they are exquisite. The furnishings, clocks, artwork and views from the windows are amazing. Every detail was perfect. The entire estate was spotless and the accommodations were flawless. Thank you and the staff for the warm welcome and hospitality throughout our stay. The drawing room is a step back in time and a perfect place to enjoy a book. Penninghame is worth the trip just to stay inside, but the parkland setting of the grounds is peaceful and beautiful as well. We were only a short drive to many shooting estates and had a great time playing Royal Troon and Turnberry. I’m sure there are other courses and Estates close by but we only had a limited number of days! The drives to and from the estates / golf courses were scenic and enjoyable. The whole place is beautiful and we had a wonderful time. Thank you!

A fantastic stay in this stunning cottage. From the welcome biscuits to the travel cot and late checkout, we could not have asked for more from our hosts. The cottage has everything you could ever need for a wonderful family-friendly stay and is well positioned to explore the best that the area has to offer. The estate itself is steeped in history and we felt very privileged to be able to roam the well manicured grounds and enjoy a glass of wine in front of the main house. Communication was easy and quick and we would love to return in the future.

A beautifully restored gardeners house in the grounds of a massive estate in rural Scotland. Top quality decoration and furnishings, very comfortable, secluded and quiet. Lovely walks in the grounds with the dog too. Staff are really friendly and accommodating. Perhaps because of the location, WiFi can be spotty - we could only get BT over cell in the afternoons and evenings - but that may be a good thing if you need time away! Newton Stewart is very close with good pubs and restaurants - even a small movie theater. Super location for hikers, bikers and people who just love the countryside. We would definitely go there again.

This was a very spacious apartment with plenty of room for our mixed family. The bedrooms were surprisingly roomy having couches as well as beds to make the rooms feel welcoming. The kitchen was well equipped with fridge, freezer and dishwasher. The outside space was wonderful. Our children had a field day exploring the grounds as well as having space to play football. It was a safe environment where they could run free. We would definately consider booking again.

The cottage is beautifully furnished throughout and is very comfortable and was very clean. It is situated on a large beautiful estate which definitely necessitates having a car; the reason I say this is that unfortunately our car broke down in the early part of our stay and the Estate Manager, Michael and his team, were so accommodating in helping us with transport to and from Newton Stewart and support in finding a mechanic. We were given a tour of the main house and it really is stunning. I understand that the Estate is under new ownership and hope that it becomes busier as time goes on as it is a very special place.

We spent a wonderful Christmas and New Year in Gardener’s cottage. Michael and the team could not have been more helpful settling us in, recommending dog walks and things to do around the local area. We loved the cottage so much we end up extending our stay for a few days which both Michael and Discover Scotland were so helpful in facilitating. The touch of a Christmas tree, decorations and hammer was a lovely warm welcome. We even got to meet the lovely owner Yvonne who personally brought us fresh towels after we extended our trip. The cottage is well equipped, great shower and comfy beds made for a very restful stay. The grounds are wonderful to walk around and the dogs was in heaven. We loved our stay so much and will definitely be back! The lodge was lovely, clean, bright and airy with everything you could need. - The welcome biscuits were a lovely surprise. The estate was very quiet over the the New Year break but it we had a lovely walk round it. The location is great with Newton Stewart a short drive away in one direction and the Galloway Forest in the other.

Cottage was well equipped and appeared to have been recently upgraded. Bed was good quality and really comfortable. On arrival, it was a little bit chilly, but I expect given the time of year that there may not have been other guests in the cottage for a few days, so perhaps it was only being heated for our arrival. Cottage is perfectly located for the Galloway Forest Park and is situated in the Penninghame Estate that has some extensive grounds. Both the park and estate were perfect for us and our dog to have a safe and enjoyable stay. Overall, a great little cottage, with quality fixtures and finish. We would definitely consider this location for future visits to this area.

Excellent location, fantastic to be able to walk round the estate, plenty forest walks on the doorstep. Stayed in Mid & West Lodge, both are decorated and furnished to a high standard with all amenities etc that you need. The welcome pack was a nice touch and Billie the estate manager was on hand to help with any questions. All in all a fantastic place to stay if looking for a nice outdoor break with Newton Stewart 5 mins away for shopping, butcher, restaurants etc. Perfect

We had the most fantastic holiday, it was my mums 70th and as a family we wanted to make it special and could not have picked a better place to celebrate together, beautiful scenery, beautiful accommodation, fantastic host keeping in touch to ensure we had a great time and direct numbers to contact if we had any issues. Wonderful holiday…we will most definitely be back. Thank you for making this a weekend to remember, my mum said it’s been her best birthday EVER.

It’s a very quirky place, but this adds to the charm. Don’t expect super luxury, but everything worked, everything was clean, there was plenty of space (even if the whole 11-person capacity was used), and the grounds are beautiful. Decent bedding, lots of pillows, tea-towels, Wi-Fi and a lovely welcome pack. Also had the thickest bath towels I’ve ever encountered! We’ll recommended.

The place was amazing and has all the amenities. It says 2 baths but has 3 bathroom. Its has a grand living room. Surround area is so green and beautiful. Its little difficult to locate as I think the instructions given were for someone who is travelling from England. Host was very friendly and helped us set bonfire and BBQ. Also helped us to find some good places to visit.

Great cottage, lovely finishing touches. Loved the 1903 estate guide about the properties included in the guest info. Kitchen was superb. Highly recommend the fire pit and some star gazing in the garden patch. We’ll be back.

Very cosy, fully equipped cottage for four with quintessential British charm in the grounds of Penninghame Estate. Very nice estate managers. The cottage is right by the Walled Garden, but the occasional work here didn't bother us at all. Newton Stewart is a good base for touring the Solway Firth, Mull of Galloway, Galloway Forest Park or such Culzean Castle. However, a car of your own is absolutely necessary.
